Getting Ready

This morning I woke up
with my heart pounding a little harder
and a little faster.
We are officially UNDER
the 6 week mark until our "guess date".
5 weeks and 6 days.
YIKES.

We are entering the second half
of our trip in Canada,
and already I am glad we only
decided to stay for one week
of Spencer's two week break.
We are thoroughly enjoying our time
with family and friends,
and look forward to spending time
in Abbotsford next.

It's just that, well,
I'm uncomfortable.
I am not sleeping well at night
which means I tire easily in the day.
My belly gets in the way,
and these "practice contractions"
are really annoying me.
I feel a bit of anxiety
being away from home,
my OB and the Birthing Center
in Portland where she will be born.

Today while wandering the streets
of sunny Vancouver with Spencer,
I had a few episodes of Braxton-Hicks
that got the best of me.
At one point I wanted to just stop
and sit in the middle of the busy cross walk,
but instead I skuttled as quickly
as I could to the safety of the sidewalk
on the other side of the street.
It made me think
"What if I am in early labor?
I am so far away from home.
I don't want an ER doctor delivering
my baby!"

This visit Little One hasn't had as much Stage Fright.
Both Smid uncles got plenty of love kicks from their niece.
Our dear friend Dave got kicked by a baby for the first time,
and unlike her Mama,
I think she likes being the centre of attention.
It is weird saying good bye to people knowing
that the next time I will see them
I'll be holding my baby girl.

Today I woke up feeling a bit bigger,
and apparently it wasn't just me who noticed.
I can feel her head lower
causing just a bit more pressure.
Today for the first time her little
foot got caught under a rib (ouch!)
and she seems to like tickling my blatter.
Thankfully,
even swanky Vancouver hotels
take one look at a big belly
and open doors to
"elite bathrooms" just to avoid a puddle on their marble floor.

Next week Spencer and I return
to a somewhat quiet Portland.
All of our friends will still
be at their homes for the rest of the break.
We have a few appointments
and plan to go on our"Babymoon".
If weather permits,
a couple of nights camping,
just the two of us.

July will be a slow month of
just hanging around Portland
and our apartment pool.
Spencer will ease into his 4th quarter
(the last one of his first year.)
We are keeping our lives,
our schedules
low key for the last month before
and after my due date.
We will be hanging up
our "Tour Guide" and "Hotel Manager"
hats for the time being as well.
Keeping our lives as comfortable
as possible as we make
final preparations for Little One
and adjust into parenthood.

We have been so pleased with
how everything is going with
the pregnancy so far.
Our care and treatment
from our OB has been exceptional
and we feel so good going into
this incredible experience with her at our side.
The hospital accomodations
are DELUXE and I can actually hardly
wait until we get to stay in this 5 Star suite!
I am so thankful that the state (maybe even the US on a whole?)
allows for a more extended stay then they do in B.C.
allowing Mom and Dad to learn how to care
and adjust to life with a newborn.
I pray everything goes as well
with the delivery as it has with the last months
of my pregnancy!

41 days....
maybe less
(*cross fingers*)
maybe more.
EEEEEP!

The Rest Of 'Em

5 days ago I posted
of our photo shoot with Michelle.
Well, she blogged and
you can find some more photos

She did a great job of capturing us
with genuine smiles
which shows the EXCITEMENT and JOY
we have over the anticipation
of Little One's arrival.

Father's Day

Mr. Raymond Dale Heinemann the First.
Also known as Dale,
Dad,
or when I really want something,
Daddy.

You've taught me to be
adventurous,
check the fluids in my car
and always be prepared.
You've taught me to
step back and take a moment
to just soak it all in,
to make memories.
You've taught me some great skills
like how to shoot a rifle carefully,
how to talk while breathing in,
and that prayer is is always Plan A.

Coyboy Baths,
stroking my forhead to fall asleep,
family trips to Harrison,
camping,
graduation and walking me down the aisle.
You've been there for me through all of it.
And soon,
you will be there to hold my first baby.

I love you Dad!
My favourite picture of us.

Easter up at Sunpeaks.

Little Dale with my Grandpa.

First time Daddy!

My dad with his Grandma,
who will be 103 this year!

Just A Peak...

This evening we had a little photo shoot
with our dear friend Michelle
We just went in our backyard,
I managed to get down on the grass
(its harder then it looks when you've got a
15 pound bowling ball strapped to your stomach!)
to take some photos.

Spencer and I were both
warning her that we aren't that good in front
of a camera and become awkard and giggly.
Not the case here.
She made us feel so relaxed and at ease.
Maybe it's because she's our friend,
or maybe she's just that talented.
(I think it's both!)

She is editing pictures as I type,
I can't wait to see the rest!
For now,
here is our peek at what's to come.
I just love her work,
don't you?!

Clockwise from Top Left:

- Howard, my husband's father.
Also known as my father-in-law.
Also known as the "Godfather" to that sweet girl and her sister.
Soon to be the grandfather.

- Holland
My husband's "motherland".

- Hot dogs.
Don't know why,
but I love them.
It's my guilty pleasure.
Even as a kid my birthday dinner
requests were either hot dogs or tacos.
I'm a weirdo, I know this already.
But you can remind me if you want to.
These are my favourite,
Trader Joe's all-natural uncured beef hot dogs.
(the photo shows the chicken ones, they're good too)

- Hanson.
This is me with them in the background
back in September 2008.
I was elated that they were in Vancouver.
There are other embarassing photos of me doing embarassing things,
like crying
(crying? who cries at concerts? 12 year old girls, that's who!)
and with the biggest, cheesiest grin ever.
(cheesy grins? who does that anymore?)
I've been a fan since 4th grade.
(Also, here's a horrific reminder of my near-Hanson experience last September)

- Haiti.
My dear friend Angela took this photo
of a sad little boy she came upon one day.
Isn't he cute?
My heart is drawn to Haiti,
has been for a long time.
but God's put Haiti on my heart.

- Hot tubbing in the snow.
This is not a photo of our hot tub at Sunpeaks,
but can we just all agree that there is nothing better
then sitting in the hot tub with snow laden trees as a background?
I especially love it when its super cold,
snowing and the boys are drinking beer and smoking cigars.
That smell combined with chlorine with always be nostalgic.

- Hawaiian islands
Never been, would love to go

To My Wife

One guy blogs
incredibly cute and ridiculous
vows to his wife.

Ladies,
you will love it.
Read it and weep
(or laugh, either one.)

And yes,
I am almost positive
that he is real,
and not just a woman posing as a man.

I may have a slight fascination.

Oven Baked Fries

Yummy, Crunchy
Baked Oven Fries -

Ingredients:
3 russet potatoes (about 24 oz. total), peeled and cut lengthwise into even sized wedges
5 tbsp. vegetable, canola or peanut oil, divided
¾ tsp. kosher salt, plus more to taste
¼ tsp. freshly ground black pepper, plus more to taste
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 475˚ F.  Place the potato wedges in a large mixing bowl.  Cover with hot water; soak for 10-30 minutes.  Put 4 tablespoons of the oil onto a heavy, rimmed baking sheet.  Tilt the sheet side to side to evenly coat the pan with oil (a pastry brush can also help with this).  Sprinkle the pan evenly with the salt and pepper.  Set aside.
Drain the potatoes.  Spread the wedges out on layers of paper towels or on clean kitchen towels.  Pat dry with additional towels.  Wipe out the now empty bowl so it is dry.  Return the potatoes to the bowl and toss with the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil.  Arrange the potato wedges on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.  Cover tightly with foil and bake for 5 minutes.  Remove the foil and continue to bake until the bottoms of the potatoes are spotty golden brown, 15-20 minutes, rotating the baking sheet after 10 minutes.  Using a metal spatula and tongs, flip each potato wedge keeping them in a single layer.  Continue baking until the fries are golden and crisp, 5 -15 minutes.  Rotate the pan as needed to ensure even browning.
When the fries are finished baking, transfer to a paper-towel lined plate to drain some of the grease.  Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.  Serve warm.

Generations...

You know what I think is cool?
5 generations of women.
5 generations!
I am blessed,
so blessed,
to have TWO living great grandmothers.
One of which will be 103 in July.
{My dad's grandma}
I am the fourth woman
on my mom's side of the family.
{This is me with my mom, my Grandma and my Great Grandma
at my sister-in-laws shower last spring. }

And now I am carrying in the fifth
in a long line of girls,
stemming from my Nana Winn.
This means in just a few days
short of two months
we will have one more to add to this photograph.

How cool is that?

Things You Should Never Say to a Pregnant Woman

Some of these are terrible
(and funny.)
Some of them I agree with,
some of them I don't.
But it makes for a funny read.

Cockle-Doodle-Doo!

Spencer and I were just talking about this video
and how CUUUUTE Coco is,
especially when imitating a rooster.
Then, we had to find the video and watch it.
I'm pretty sure I've posted it before,
but during our hung I couldn't find it on my blog.
We then spent the next 10 minutes
searching all over Sharla and Ben's blog
looking for this video
(and groaning about how fast those girls are growing up!)
Please click on the link above and watch it.
You don't want to miss it.

Take A Step Back

Can we just take a step
back and remember
Stella/Pacer Smid?

Wasn't she/he soooo cute?
I miss her/him.

Clockwise from Top Left:

1. Banana flavour...
No, I am not talking about the real banana flavour.
I like the artificial kind!
Yes, Banana Laffy Taffy, Banana marshmallows
and even Banana flavoured penicillin.

2. Bicycles... especially of the cruiser variety.

3. Babies!
I don't know whose baby this is
dressed in a teddy suit.
But he's dang cute!

4. Black Forest, Germany
One of our favourite places while backpacking.
Spencer spent a couple years living here, too.

5.  Boots!
I always seem to be drawn to Brown Boots especially.

Wrapping My Mind Around It

Last night was our first pre-natal class.
To be honest,
Spencer and I went in their
with low expectations.
I am happy to say we left feeling
the opposite.
The teacher was amazing.
She is an RN and a doula
and has 34 years of baby catching
under her belt.

She knew so much about
the whole process
and was just so sweet.
Really, we just left with our minds at ease.
She dispelled many of our fears
(for the husbands and the wives)
and encouraged us.
She was honest
(which I always appreciate)
about the pain
and the hardships of bringing baby home.

Not only did she encourage the women
that this will be the most empowering experience
of our lives,
but equally encouraged our men
in the importance of their job as well.
For the first time since I saw those two pink lines,
I left their feeling excited for the whole labor process to begin.

Spencer and I are in awe
at how little time we have left
as our family of two.
Soon our lives will change dramatically,
very soon!
In just 9 weeks and counting down
our due date is approaching.
We are so excited to meet our little girl
who has us wrapped around her tiny finger already.

My mind has been working overtime,
and I have been trying to keep
all my thoughts positive.
Sometimes the "what-ifs"
get away on me and send me into a frenzy.
But I also know this is only
the beginning of wondering "what-if"
in her life.
Mostly,
I have been making list after list
of the things we still need,
things to prepare,
and what I want to clean before I can't reach it anymore
(that day is drawing VERY near!)

I am so, so thankful
for my mom who is planning
to come down and help us
for a while.
And I am so thankful
for the ladies at my MOPS group
who are going to prepare meals
for our first week or two at home!
Can I bribe anyone to come and
clean bathrooms and do laundry?

What are some ways you nested and prepared for your baby?
What are some things you were able to do ahead of time?
Did you bake, cook and freeze?
Clean every nook and cranny?
I'd love to hear!
