Little Impressionable Mind

Oh my goodness.

It is so frightening and a big eye opener

when my little one repeats

everything.i.say.

Even swear words.

Yikes.

It has really made me realize

what I do and what I say.

I have a little one who watches (and copies)

everything.

She has said a few bad words to date.

We are really catching ourselves.

I've started saying things like

"shiznaz" and "shoot" to avoid it.

(Which she will say as well.)

But what I do love is how Claire tells me

"Mommy you foo-fool",

because everyday day Spencer tells me,

"Mommy, you're beautiful."

Or how after pinching my cheek too hard

and having a private chat with daddy,

she comes running back into the room and says

"So-wee Mommy" and kisses each cheek.

I love it that she gets so much joy out 

of seeing Spencer and I kiss.

I know there will come a day when she turns away saying "ew!"

But for now I love that she pushes our faces together demanding us to kiss.

Sure she has moments where she pushes and snatches toys.

But I also love the moments she is about to swat

when someone frustrates her, but catches herself and lowers her hand.

Seems like I'm doing something right after all.

On Monday while driving home with Diane and I,

Diane was in the backseat and Claire took her Nana's hand and said,

"Let's pay... Jesus, (mutter mutter) Bible tells me so. Amen."

Talk about hearts melting!

It made me so proud to hear my 

20 months old baby toddler praying on her own.

These little minds are so impressionable.

It frightens me.

But I pray that those moments where I pray in front of her

have a much bigger impact then the times I let a swear word slip.

Lord,

keep my mind free of evil thoughts,

my tongue free of hurtful words,

and my hands a tender touch always.

Amen.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight.  

Psalm 19:14

And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
