Vinyl Cafe and Serena Ryder

I have recently been introduced to the Vinyl Cafe with Stuart McLean. He has some books, as well as a spot on CBC radio. I recently subscribed to his PodCast on iTunes. Best decision I've ever made.

January 30th's episode is called "Dave's Shoelace". The way Mr. Stuart writes is extraordinary. And the way he reads captivates even those who don't like to listen to stories read aloud. You can't help but laugh out loud.

During the episode, there is a featured musical artist. As this was my first official Vinyl Cafe I downloaded, I was anxious to hear who would be playing this time.

Soon the familiar voice of Serena Ryder filled the air and my heart sang. If I had to describe Miss Ryder (which would really by unfair to compare her to anyone) I would have to say she's a bit like Alanis Morrisette with a raw, beautiful voice.

Serena, Vinyl Cafe - what a GREAT combo.

She sang my favourite song of hers, I'd like to share the lyrics with you. To really appreciate it, click here to watch (or I would just say listen) to the video. The sound, her voice, almost brings tears to my eyes. You can really feel her emotion.

Would you mind if I pretended we were somewhere else,
doing something we wanted to,
'Cause all this living makes me wanna do,
is die because I can't live with you,
and you don't even care.
Would you mind if I pretended I was someone else,
with courage in love and war.
I use to think that's what I was,
but now this lying hurts to much,
and I don't know what for.

I'm weak in the knees for you,
but I'll stand if you want me to.
My legs are strong and I'll move on,
but hunny I'm weak, in the knees.

ooooh,
ooooohhh,

Would you mind if I walked over and I kissed your face,
infront of all your friends.
Would you mind if I got drunk and said,
I wanna take you home to bed,
Oh would you change your mind?

I'm weak in the knees for you,
but I'll stand if you want me to.
My legs are strong, and I'll move on,
but hunny I'm weak, in the knees, for you

Ooooh for you,
Ooooh for you,
Ooooh for you,
Ooooh for you,
Ooooh for you,
Ooooh for you,
Ooooh for you

I'm weak in the knees for you,
but I'll stand if you want me to.
Oooohhhh
My legs are strong and I'll move on,
hunny I'm weak in the knees

I'm weak in the knees for you,
But I'll stand if you want me to.
My legs are strong and I'll move on,
But hunny I'm weak
Ooooh,
Hunny I'm weak,
Oooohh,
Ooooh for you,
Ooooh for you,
Ooooh for you,
Ooooh for you
